Holy moly It has been a while since I posted a blog on my website!
It has been quite a busy six months since the world was turned upside down by the corona virus (and still is). For us as students, quite a bit changed: no more physical lessons were given, tests of subjects were changed or adjusted and from now on home was not only “home” but also the place where you started working / studying 24/7.
So it was quite a challenge in the beginning to ensure that you could find a good balance between studying and relaxing in the same space. For me this resulted in a lot of gaming, but after a month that was over and I had found my drive for the study and that was also reflected in my results, from average grades between 6 β¦ 7 to 8 .. .9, damn that’s progress!
School projects
Last academic year I was able to run quite a few nice projects, where I am still proud of the fact that I was able to learn the underlying framework (laravel).
A smart fridge
Together within a project group, we have built an IoT platform under the name of a “smart refrigerator“. You could add products to your account through AI (artificial intelligence) or by scanning the barcode, after which the best-before date was automatically generated. If a product is about to expire, you were notified of this and you were served a number of recipes that you could still make from the product. Super handy right?
Teddy bear hunting
Actually, this was not a project for school, but in the end it was, with a good grade as a result.
At the beginning of the corona crisis, a “hype” flew from Belgium / Australia to the Netherlands, called teddy bear hunting. The intention is that everyone puts a bear in front of the window, after which children could hunt for these bears in their own neighborhood. Because at the time the rule was to stay indoors as much as possible, but it’s impossible to keep your children in 24/7 indoors.
That is why I built a map on which everyone in the Netherlands could put their bear on, so that parents could steer the children a little more in the right direction. In the end, together with a fellow student, I upgraded the card, multilingual and expansions to Belgium and Germany. Also with a kind of Pokemon Go feature where you could hunt bears with your phone.
We received a lot of publicity with it, in the end the website was visited more than 130,000 times with a total of more than 39,000 bears that were registered. See this page for more pictures / information.
How was the summer?
In the meantime, the summer vacation is over and in fact I haven’t even been on vacation. Although that was not really possible because of the corona, but I didn’t really feel like going on vacation because I was busy enough.
Because we have moved! π My mother and I have said goodbye to the city of Alkmaar, my mother has gone to Friesland and in the meantime I have also been living in Leiden for over a year. Although I must say that since the corona crisis I have been staying “temporarily” with my girlfriend, which of course is also super cozy. In the meantime we have broken our own record “Longest time together in a house” π€£
Well this was it for now, but the next blog will certainly not take months π
