It’s a long time ago

Oh mean… what did I do!? It’s been a year since my last post and too much has happened in that time, sorry for that! But let’s do a quick recap of the highlights. Workplace upgrade Exactly one year ago we were in a time when “education from distance” was the norm and I also started an internship what happened from home, so I decided to invest in my workplace at home. My workplace consisted of a small desk with a shelving unit on both sides and I thought that could be better. It seemed very cool to me, but…

First integration in Home Assistant!

Something that was always on my todo / wish list was making my own integration, but it never happened until now! My knowledge of python is still quite basic, but I still wanted to give it a try. To start off simply, I decided to build an integration that shows the occupancy of a large number of parking garages in Amsterdam (The Netherlands). You are probably wondering when can I use this integration? It’s available from version 2021.06! Sensors When you add a garage via the UI, you get 4 sensors in your overview: Free space long Free space short…

How I save water while showering🚿

Hey hello, there I’m again with an update! In this blog I will come up with a number of updates that I’ve made in Home Assistant / my house, such as new hardware and I will show you a great idea how you could possibly save water while showering. But first, Blueprints! 📘 Blueprints Recently it’s now possible to make blueprints in Home Assistant, with this you can create a pre-made automation that contains all the logic and others can easily import and use them as a basis for their automation. For the above devices I made a blueprint, the…

Is this going to be the future?

I have a new laptop! 💻 It has been a while, but I gave myself a new laptop. I noticed that my old laptop (Acer V Nitro …) was no longer good enough for all my work and study assignments, mainly because we were working on Android app development at the time during my studies and especially the emulator demands a lot from your laptop . In the end I bought the Asus Zenbook 15, a 14 inch model laptop with a 15″ 4K screen and an extra screen in the touchpad! Later on the details, but first a nice…

My TV 📺 is out of (own) control

6-8-2019 – have stopped using the Broadlink RM Pro + Nowadays I switched from the Broadlink to a Harmony Hub, so my code on Github has also been changed to the use of services that control the Harmony Hub. I have now added the basic code for using a Broadlink in this article. Help my TV do weird things, Well no… it’s Home Assistant who is in control! Today we are going into the depths of a new part within my system, being able to operate your TV through “Hey Google turn on TV!” and more! 😀 To get this…

Home Assistant config on Github

Since this week it’s possible to find my Home Assistant configuration on Github, you can see on this repository what I use and how the code looks like. Feel you free to take parts over for your own configuration, but beware not everything can always be copied unquestionably and sometimes you will have to adjust something to let it work in your own configuration. Github today and tomorrow As you can see on Github, I have done quite a lot of work for a good start on which I can continue to work on. To describe everything I have done…

Keep it cool ❄️

A week is over, so it’s time for another update. Fridge After a long search and consideration, I finally purchased a fridge delivered by Coolblue. I did have one important requirement for the fridge, the engine must be super quiet and preferably around 37db max. This is because I don’t have a separate bedroom and therefore almost sleep next to the fridge, so…. rather not a fridge that keeps you out of sleep. If someone knows some nice things about making automations for your fridge, let me know! (btw my fridge support wifi, but Samsung has never rolled this feature…

Home sweet (new) home!

Hey, Today I finally got the keys to my own home in Leiden! 25m2 of space for myself where I hope (as long as I do my best at school) I can continue to live in the coming years. As you can see there is of course nothing at all now, in the coming period I will move everything piece by piece. One of my goals with the studio is to make it a smart (home automation) stay. The beating heart of this will consist of a TP Link C3150 router and a Raspberry Pi 3B + with Home Assistant…
